Eye Injuries Caused By Toys Common Occurrence

Be Careful During The Holidays

The holiday season is fast approaching and children are looking forward to receiving new toys as presents. With children trying out numerous new toys and possibly not quite sure about how they work orthe proper way to handle them, there’s a potential for more injuries to be experienced by children during this time of the year. One type of injury that has become increasingly more common is eye injuries. Several eye injuries are happening to children around the holidays because of the unsafe use of toys.

Injuries Can Often Be Prevented

In order to raise awareness of eye injuries caused by toys during the holidays, the American Academy of Ophthalmology has made December the Safe Toys and Celebrations Month through its Eye Smart campaign. The goal of the campaign is to make parents more aware of the hazards that toys may create to children’s eyes. Children are given many types of toys that can be dangerous as holiday presents. These can include BB guns, darts, paintball guns and pellet guns. These types of toys can cause serious injuries to a child’s eyes and other parts of their body if they are defective or not used properly because of poor labeling and lack of directions. In certain situations, permanent eyesight loss can even be a result.

In order to prevent these types of injuries from happening, parents should make sure that they choose toys that are safe and should also research toys before they are purchased to make sure that they haven’t been recalled or caused harm to other children. Parents should avoid buying toys that have sharp parts that stick out. They should also supervise their children while they are playing with toys that could be potentially hazardous. If your child has suffered an eye injury from a toy that might be defective or improperly labeled then have their eyes checked by your eye doctor. Also contact a personal injury lawyer to find out what your options are for getting compensation for your injuries and losses.

Toys To Avoid That Potentially Cause Eye Injuries

The holidays are supposed to be a fun and happy time for kids. Many children end up receiving many new toys as presents during the month of December. However often in their excitement and eagerness to play with their new toys, children sometimes fail to take proper precautions when trying out their gifts. All too often, accidents and injuries happen as a result of a toy not functioning properly or children not using the toys in the right manner. Eye injuries tend to be one of the common injuries associated with toys. At times, the injury can be so severe that permanent eye loss is a result. Defective product liability attorneys and recall lawyers legal firms may be needed across the nation.

It is important that parents be aware of these possible injuries, the types of toys that pose the most danger for eye injury and ways to prevent them from happening. During the holidays, children are given many different types of toys. They often don’t think about the dangers that are associated with the toys that they choose. They are just thinking about how much fun the toy will be. The toys that parents need to be more careful with include BB guns, darts, paintball guns and pellet guns. In some situations it is best to avoid these toys altogether. They can cause serious injuries to a child’s eyes and other parts of their body if they are defective or not used properly because of poor labeling and lack of directions. Parents should also avoid toys with very small parts or magnets that can cause choking hazards or be accidentally ingested by the child or younger sibling. Toys with sharp protruding parts are probably not a good choice as well.

In order to prevent eye injuries from happening, parents should make sure that they choose toys that are safe and should also research toys before they are purchased to make sure that they haven’t been recalled or caused harm to other children. It’s also a good idea to always supervise their children while they are playing with toys that could be potentially hazardous. If your child has been a victim of an eye injury caused by a dangerous or defective toy then consult with a personal injury attorney who is dedicated to fighting for your rights and getting the compensation that you deserve.
